Today, we venture into London by train to say sayonara to Linden and Aiko, who are upping sticks to Hong Kong. Of course, a family trip requires considerable logistical planning to avoid stress. It all goes swimmingly well even though I have to sit with a 5- and a 3-year old perched on my lap giving a running commentary on the passing Surrey landscape. There’s a tree…there’s a station…there’s a sewage plant etc. Of course, it goes tits up at Clapham Junction whereupon the trains are having a Sunday rest and so we are wedged onto a bus like sardines for a scenic route through west London. After a quick detour through Westfield shopping centre, we catch a second bus to the superb Princess Victoria (great wine last + top notch gastrogrub.) It is always sad to say good-bye, but I am sure we will meet again.
Alex gives us a lift back to Clapham through the gridlocked West End, so I spend the time elucidating him about the brilliance of mid-80s SOS Band, so that something positive can come out of the traffic jam.
