Bugger, bugger, bugger. Last minute deadlines mean that I have to forego this morning’s “Cool Sonoma” seminar. I am sure that Sonoma is cool, but verification will have to wait another day. Instead, I attend the Napa Valley tasting to taste through the likes of Peter Michael Winery, Diamond Creek, Littorai etc. and then off to The Ledbury for a tidy Pol Roger Winston Churchill vertical lunch.
Hoorah! Just 5 minutes late!
Except the lunch is not at The Ledbury in Notting Hill, but The Square in distant Mayfair. My first indication of my two-Michelin star mix-up is when I see chairs on tables at The Ledbury. That would make it difficult for diners to eat, wouldn’t it? A quick phone call and I am rushing back to Mayfair, cursing under my breath. Still, the lunch and the champagnes are exquisite, particularly an ethereal Winston Churchill ’88, then its over to the next-door pub for a swift half x 2 of London Pride and then back home after a hectic day, not that is prevents me from writing until 1a.m.
