Saturday 16th January – 2 x Snow White

It is Lily’s unofficial 5th birthday. Her real birthday is on Monday, but like the Queen she has so many pressing engagements that the celebrations must be spread over three days. Tomoko gives her one of her zillion presents: a reversible Snow White/Cinderella dress that naturally inspires her sister to don her own, which turns our house into some kind of Brothers Grimm fairytale. I check the garden, just in case seven dwarves are camped out down by the garden shed? Mum and dad come up so that we can all go out for a pizza in Guildford, although the terrible weather means that the town centre is a veritable log jam or irate drivers unable to find a parking space, or at least one you can park in for more than 30 seconds. Dad ends up driving back to mine and parking the car in the driveway. The pizza is satisfactory, no more, then we troop home to cut Lily’s pink cake that Tomoko made in the morning, pink being the mandatory hue for any cake.

Two Snow Whites in the house

I spend the rest of the evening working. This is a ridiculously busy time for me, which is all rather stressful and rather boring for my wife, who has the company of the television spewing out its usual bilge. I take a break from tapping away at the QWERTY and surf the channels for something culturally stimulating. With nothing even approaching entertainment that necessitates the use of more the 3% of your neurological system, we veg out to Zoolander, which is utterly, utterly stoopid…but very funny.
